Angola Civil War Days
Abraham Lincoln, Robert E. Lee, Ulysses S. Grant plus Benjamin Franklin re-enactors will entertain and educate at the 9th Annual Angola Civil War Days Sept. 25-27.
The event starts Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Soldiers Monument in downtown Angola. A short ceremony will honor the soldiers who fought in the Civil War, then the troops will then march back to Commons Park, which is home-base for the weekend. Other Saturday highlights include educational talks at the individual camps, General Friedrich von Steuben, a ladies tea and a presentation on the history of the gun. Lee’s surrender will be re-enacted at 2 p.m., complete with cannon fire.
On Sunday, a period church service starts at 10 a.m., followed by a talk from Benjamin Franklin at 11 a.m. The skirmish at Commons Park starts at 2:30 p.m.
On Friday, various school groups will tour the camp. A craft show has been added this year. Both admission and parking are free!
